Palmerton Girls Track and Field Team Conquer Their Rival

On April 1, 2024, The Palmerton Blue Bombers Girls Track and Field team went up against their rivals, the Northern Lehigh Bulldogs. The team’s rivalry goes across many sports which motivates the athletes to perform to their best so they can come out on top. Coach Mike Gombert led the team to a win with a final score of 89-61. The captains, seniors Emma Snyder and Cora Wentz, both encourage their team mates to do their best and also are able to take first place for select events. Snyder got first place in high jump with a height of 5 feet 3 inches, which is 6 inches over the second place height. Cora Wentz got first in the 800 and 1600 meter runs with times of 2:34.50 and 5:44.90. All athletes on the team are appreciated, but some stood out for their exceptional performances at this meet. Jessica Heydt secured first place in both of her events, discus and shot put. She had a 33 feet 11 inch throw for shot put and a 85 feet 6 inch throw for discus. Ruby Walters excels in the 300 meter hurdles getting first place with a time of 49 seconds. Walters is also a part of the 4x1 relay team that got first place with a time of 51.40 seconds. Being in a relay is more pressure according to Walters because you are not only competing for yourself, but three of your other teammates too. There were also a few stand out players from Northern Lehigh. Evelina Mayak got first place in the 100 meter hurdles and in triple jump. She ran a 15.6 and jumped 34-08.57. Dakota Barthold got first place in javelin with a throw of 95 feet 7 inches for the bulldogs. Even though athletes from Northern Lehigh competed to their best ability and some did stand out in certain events, it was just not enough for them to secure the win. This led the Bombers one step closer to a winning season.
