Meet Field Hockey’s Senior Captains

Palmerton’s 2023 field hockey team is led by Skylar Kohler, Celeste Hoffmann, and returning captain, Sydney Frantz. As seniors, they are vital to the team’s success and the overall image of Palmerton Field Hockey. Head Coach Megan Leadbetter says, “The three seniors have built a foundation for this program, so that we are able to continue to play great field hockey, have outstanding leadership, and they are going to leave a legacy here that will continue on after they graduate.” The three captains’ levels of play is very clear as they all have different strengths that work perfectly together on the field. Frantz has excellent shots on goal, Koehler flies out of seemingly nowhere on defense, and Hoffmann can carry the ball up the field and dribble around anyone.

Deep in Concentration, Celeste Hoffman goes in for a goal.

Celeste Hoffmann is a field hockey veteran, playing since 4th grade. Her favorite memory from Palmerton Field Hockey is winning the field hockey District Championships her sophomore year. Hoffmann’s future plans include attending a 4-year college and looking to continue her field hockey career. Her best personal accomplishment was becoming a senior year captain with her two best friends. On the side, Celeste plays for PPA club field hockey (coached by Leadbetter) and snowboards. It’s clear that Celeste is extremely skilled at what she does, and her future field hockey career will lead her to many successes.

Two year consecutive captain Sydney Frantz has been playing field hockey since 7th grade. In addition to field hockey, Frantz puts her spare time into running, playing softball, and playing basketball. Her favorite field hockey memories include winning the District Championships and bonding with her team. She plans to continue her field hockey career at East Stroudsburg University. She is most proud of breaking the school record for most career goals and most career assists. Frantz’s leadership is very important to the field hockey team, and she and her legacy will be greatly missed next season. However, there is no doubt she will continue to succeed at East Stroudsburg.

Skylar Koehler’s best personal accomplishment is being known as a universal player. Instead of being known for only one position, she can move around and play any. This has to do with her high skill level from playing hockey since 3rd grade. Her favorite field hockey memory was winning the District Championships her sophomore year. Koehler’s future plans include attending Misericordia University to study Health Science and continuing to play field hockey. On the side, Skylar plays for PPA club field hockey and snowboards. Skylar is vital to the team as she can be put anywhere on the field and adapt to it, but also because she is a big role model to all the girls on the team. She will be an extremely valued player at Misericordia and will always be remembered.

Skylar and Sydney share a moment at Senior night before the game.
